How can I help your ministry? How can I be a part of COMIX35?

As with any ministry, our biggest need is PRAYER support. Please consider becoming one of our Prayer Partners.

Also, COMIX35 is always looking for new teachers and welcomes (enthusiastically!) the participation of qualified Christians who live and work in the countries where we hold our seminars. Please contact us and send a résumé, C.V. or list of professional credits.

What comics do you publish? Can I work on comics you publish? Can I see or receive samples of comics you publish?

Primarily COMIX35 is a Christian comics TEACHING and CONSULTING ministry, not a Christian comics publisher or distributor, but we do help in the production of some comics through our P.I.C.S. Projects. Also, our sister ministry, New Life Literature Asia/USA is involved with comics production, but only Christian manga-style comics produced in Japan.

There is a Christian Comics Catalog at the Christian Comics International web site, which we maintain as a ministry service, from which you can purchase many Christian comics, including Bible or Bible Story Adaptation comics.

What does "COMIX35" mean?

The "X35" in COMIX35 refers to Exodus 35:30-35, where the LORD calls the artisans whom He will fill with His Spirit, not only giving them the ability, intelligence, knowledge, and craftsmanship to do every sort of work done by a artist or a designer, but also inspiring them to TEACH it. So "COMIX35" signifies that we are a ministry which has been inspired by the LORD to teach others the comics production skills He has given us through years of training and professional experience.

Where have you held COMIX35 seminars? How many seminars have you held?

Please see our Past Events pages for the latest updates on this information.

Where will you be holding your next COMIX35 seminars?

Please see our Future Events page for this information. All current training plans will be listed there just as soon as they are confirmed.

When will the next seminar be held in my U.S. city/area? Why aren't there more U.S. seminars?

At the Lord's leading, COMIX35 has been holding mostly overseas seminars.

We have held seminars in Georgia (Sept. 1996), California (Aug. 1999), a Connecticut prison (Mar. 2000), and in Delaware (Aug. 2005). Please see our Past Events pages for more information on these events.

It is possible that there will be future seminars in the USA, as the Lord guides and provides.

Who should attend a COMIX35 seminar? What lessons are covered in a COMIX35 seminar?

The COMIX35 seminar is aimed at Christian communicators who need help with the specifics of creating and using Christian comics for evangelism and discipleship. It is not an introductory "how to draw" class, although some of that material can be covered in a seminar.

An average course includes such sessions as Identifying your Audience, Plotting & Scripting, Storyboarding & Visual Storytelling, Editing/Art Directing, and Cultural, Communication, Evangelism Strategy Considerations. Click here to see some sample schedules from previous events.

Our teaching method shows attendees how to combine professional production values with culturally effective communication, which is the real strength of our unique seminars.

You can read comments from past attendees to help you decide if the COMIX35 seminar would be valuable for you or your ministry.

Please see our page on Attending a COMIX35 Seminar for additional details.

Can I receive a scholarship to attend one of your seminars?

We're sorry, but we do not have the financial resources to provide scholarships.

Do you teach cartooning or comics production by correspondence course?

Not at this time.

Do you have teaching materials you can send me?

Not at this time, but COMIX35 hopes to begin offering low resolution PDF files of some of our comics tips, techniques, and training handouts at some point in the future.

Why are "Christian comics" so effective?

Universal Appeal: Cartoon characters and comics are enjoyed by all age groups and are excellent communication tools. People around the world already love them and read them. (While the bestselling US comics title checks in at around 1.5 million copies a year, the top comic in Japan has a circulation of 3.2 million copies per week. In fact, comics are the world's most widely read form of popular literature!

Cultural Versatility: Comics can be-- and have been-- adapted readily to fit specific people groups. A biographer of Martin Luther tells us that Northern Germany was won for the Reformation, in part, through tracts and cartoons. The leaflets dropped during Desert Storm, showing Iraqi troops how to surrender, were miniature comics. In Brazil, the health ministry prepared 1.4 million comics pamphlets to promote the government's views on AIDS and sex education. The communists propagandized Nationalist China with cartoon booklets before their takeover and more recently produced comics in a campaign to promote national patriotism.

Clarity & Simplicity: Comics can communicate Gospel truths with an understandable directness. Bible lessons and Christian teaching can be represented in an engaging story format, making them more memorable to both children and adults. Additionally, comic books are "reader breeders." They promote literacy by using exciting visuals to draw the viewer into the story. With Christian comics, you can encourage people both to read in general and to read the Word specifically.

Longevity & Accessibility: Comic books are one of the longest lasting outreach tools for youth and comic book reading adults. The message remains around to be read again and again. And, in addition to the individual who originally buys or receives it, a comic book will often be read by other members of the family, as well as visitors to the household.

Low Cost: Comics are relatively inexpensive when compared with other, similar forms of "entertainment" outreach. Entire issues can be created and printed for less than the cost of a few minutes of cartoon animation. And like most magazines, a comic book will still be around after things heard on TV and radio are just memories.
